Shape Space and Measure

Post 16: 1 have been learning about Shape Space and Measure in Maths. We have been measuring all different objects, using different units of measure and tools. Student have also been looking at different shapes and learning properties of shape.

Body Awareness and Physical Changes

Post 16:2 have been working on their Equals unit of Body Awareness and Physical Changes. Pupils began by undertaking body awareness exercises and studying presentations containing images of various boy parts e.g. face, arms, feet. Pupils then drew around one of their peers and attempted to correctly label the parts of the body using symbols from communicate in print. Throughout the unit pupils have been developing their speaking and listening skills, as well as working towards PSD targets of Interacting and Working with others.

Creativity Group

We have been working around a theme of faces. Students have all been keen to produce 3D art work so we sought inspiration with a trip to Durham to look at faces in sculpture, architecture and the cathedral. We looked at the stained glass windows then visited local glass artist Janet Rogers in her studio at Crushed Chilli Glass. The students took part in a fused glass workshop and made glass tiles continuing with the faces theme. All the young people excelled both in their life skills and brilliant artwork!

We continued investigating our theme at the Hatton Gallery in Newcastle and were inspired by the pop art exhibition. Students produced some excellent follow up work.

In school students have learned to make and model with salt dough making faces and then making pencil pots/vases, getting a high quality finish with their painting.

In the last 2 weeks we have begun to create wreaths, bike chain art and paintings to sell at the xmas fair as part of our enterprise

All students have had the chance to visit their local community, take part in new artistic activities and gain new skills. A fantastic, hard working group – well done!

Students have been very busy getting all the craft pieces ready for the school fair. Student are very excited for the Christmas fair so they can sell on their craft items.

We are working towards individual differentiated PSD targets in Enterprise including, following symbol instructions, organising self for an activity and working as part of a team.

Student have been working towards accreditation in either; ASDAN: Working as Part of a Group (Entry 1,2,3) or PP Taking part in a mini Enterprise Project. (Pre-Entry).

We have been working on number skills in Post 16 Maths. Students have been reading numbers, writing numbers, finding numbers, counting, adding numbers and  subtracting numbers

We have been working really hard to learn new skills when using numbers in cross curricular lessons and games.
